“And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.”
Matthew 25:46 (KJV)
THE INVISIBLE CONSEQUENCES OF HUMAN CHOICES
Human life is often lived with attention fixed only on what is visible. People think about success, possessions, reputation, and temporary pleasure. Yet the sacred teachings recorded in the Gospel of Matthew remind humanity that existence does not end with the visible world.
Every choice carries a consequence that extends beyond the moment in which it is made.
THE STORY OF ODESHI AND NTI-IKE
In a lively town surrounded by farms and trading markets lived a young man named Odeshi. In the language of his people, his name meant “nothing will happen.” The name reflected his attitude toward life. Odeshi believed that actions carried no serious consequences.
Whenever elders warned him about dishonesty, arrogance, or wickedness, he would laugh.
“Nothing will happen,” he would say confidently. “People talk too much about judgment and consequences. Life is meant to be enjoyed.”
Odeshi had a close friend named Nti-ike, whose name meant “stubbornness.” The two young men often walked together through the markets and streets of the town. Both were strong-willed and resistant to correction, but Odeshi was the louder voice whenever the elders tried to advise them.
Slowly, Odeshi’s lifestyle became reckless. He cheated in business, mocked the warnings of faith, and ignored every call to repentance. Whenever someone reminded him about God, righteousness, or eternal accountability, he would wave his hand dismissively.
“Nothing will happen,” he repeated.
Years passed, and Odeshi continued walking the same path.
Then one unexpected evening, tragedy struck. Odeshi suddenly fell ill and died before anyone imagined that his life would end so soon. The town mourned his passing, but many elders quietly remembered the warnings they had spoken to him.
For Nti-ike, the death of his friend was troubling. Yet his stubborn heart still resisted reflection. He tried to forget the matter and continued living carelessly.
But one night something extraordinary happened.
Nti-ike had a vivid dream.
In the dream he saw Odeshi standing in a place filled with darkness and torment. His face, once proud and confident, was now filled with regret and sorrow.
“Odeshi!” Nti-ike cried out in the dream. “What happened to you?”
Odeshi answered with a trembling voice.
“My friend, I was wrong. I believed that nothing would happen. I ignored every warning and every opportunity to turn to God. Now I understand that every choice carried a weight beyond what I could see.”
The flames around him flickered as he continued speaking.
“Tell those who are still alive that eternity is real. Tell them not to ignore the voice of truth as I did.”
Nti-ike woke suddenly from the dream, trembling with fear. His heart beat rapidly as the memory of Odeshi’s words echoed in his mind.
For the first time in his life, his stubbornness began to break.
THE TURNING POINT
At dawn Nti-ike walked quickly through the quiet streets of the town. His mind was filled with the terrifying vision he had seen in the night.
He realized that life was fragile and uncertain. The friend who once laughed beside him was now gone. The warnings they had both mocked suddenly felt serious and urgent.
That morning Nti-ike entered a small gathering of believers who were praying and reading the Scriptures about salvation.
With tears in his eyes he confessed his pride, his stubbornness, and the careless life he had lived.
In that moment he surrendered his life to Jesus Christ, asking for mercy, forgiveness, and a new beginning.
The stubborn man who once rejected every warning became a changed person. From that day forward Nti-ike began telling others the lesson he had learned:
“Do not wait until it is too late. Life is short, but eternity is long.”
THE SPIRITUAL LESSON
The story of Odeshi and Nti-ike illustrates a profound truth: many people assume that consequences are distant and avoidable. They live as if eternity does not exist.
Yet life is fragile, and time moves quickly. A person may laugh at warnings today and face reality tomorrow.
Hellfire in sacred teaching serves as a solemn reminder that the direction of life matters deeply. It calls humanity to reflection, repentance, and transformation.
The message is not meant to trap people in fear but to awaken them to truth. As long as life continues, the opportunity for repentance and salvation remains open.
Nti-ike discovered that truth when the dream of his friend shook him awake.
CLOSING WISDOM
The visible world often distracts people with temporary concerns, yet beyond what the eyes can see lies an eternal reality.
Every decision, every action, and every belief shapes the direction of a life.
The lesson is clear and urgent: do not live as if nothing will happen.
“A single step in the wrong direction can take you a thousand miles from home.”
