THE STORY OF UWA-DI-UTO
There once lived a beautiful young woman named Uwa-di-uto, meaning “The world is sweet.” Her parents gave her that name to remind her that God’s world is full of goodness. Sadly, she misunderstood its meaning. She believed that every attractive thing the world offered should be embraced.
She loved expensive clothes, luxurious cars, fine restaurants, and wealthy men. Whenever she met a man with money, her answer was always yes. Friends warned her that wealth does not always reveal character, but she laughed and insisted that money could never deceive her.
An elderly woman once told her, “Honey attracts bees, but it also attracts flies.” She ignored the warning.
One day, a wealthy and charming stranger promised her a life of luxury. Without asking questions, she accepted his invitation. During the journey, the vehicle suddenly left the main road and entered a lonely forest. Fear gripped her heart. She cried to God for mercy.
As they approached a secluded compound, confusion unexpectedly broke out among the men waiting there. Taking advantage of the distraction, Uwa-di-uto quietly opened the car door, escaped into the bush, and eventually found safety.
Only afterward did she discover that she had narrowly escaped being used for ritual purposes.
From that day, she understood that not every attractive invitation is a blessing, not every wealthy person has good intentions, and not every smiling face is trustworthy.
THE LESSON OF DISCERNMENT
People naturally long to be accepted, admired, and successful. Because of this, many mistake attractive opportunities for divine blessings. Yet every invitation deserves careful examination. A fisherman hides a hook beneath attractive bait because he knows appearances can deceive.
Wisdom is not the ability to say yes to everything. Wisdom is knowing what deserves a yes and what requires a firm no.
THE DANGER OF UNWISE AGREEMENTS
The enemy rarely destroys people with one great decision. More often, destruction begins with one careless agreement after another. Eve accepted one conversation. Samson embraced one unhealthy relationship. Judas nurtured one love for money. Small compromises eventually become great tragedies.
The Holy Spirit produces self-control in every believer. Sometimes the greatest act of faith is not praying for another open door but having the courage to walk away from the wrong one.
THE POWER OF HEALTHY BOUNDARIES
A river remains useful because its banks keep it within boundaries. Remove those boundaries, and the same water becomes destructive. In the same way, healthy boundaries preserve our purity, our peace, our purpose, and sometimes even our lives.
