Panic often begins where gratitude ends.
When we become obsessed with what we do not have, we become blind to what God has already placed in our hands.
Never insult God’s wisdom with panic.
God does not need to give you what He gave another person to prove that He has been good to you. Some delays are preparation. Some closed doors are protection. Some blessings look small until time reveals their value.
An ungrateful heart can live inside a miracle and still complain about what is outside it.
THE STORY OF A MAN WHO COULD NEVER SEE HIS OWN BLESSINGS
There was once a man named Obi-ezuike, meaning a restless heart, who was known in his village as a successful farmer. His father had left him a fertile piece of land, a healthy family, a modest house, and enough harvest each year to feed his household and support others.
Yet Obi-ezuike was rarely happy.
Whenever he visited another man’s compound, he noticed what that man had that he did not have.
If someone bought a bigger house, he became restless.
If another man bought a new motorcycle, he complained about his old one.
When his neighbour’s farm produced more yams, he forgot the harvest already stored in his own barn.
One evening, an elderly man asked him, “Obi-ezuike, what exactly are you lacking?”
He began listing his desires.
The old man listened quietly and then said, “You have spent so much time counting what is in another man’s compound that you have forgotten to count what God has placed in yours.”
Obi-ezuike was silent.
The old man continued, “If God gave you everything you admire in others, you might still find someone else whose possession would make you unhappy. Your problem is not that God has done little for you. Your problem is that you have trained your eyes to see other people’s blessings more clearly than your own.”
That night, Obi-ezuike returned home and walked slowly through his compound.
He looked at his children.
He looked at his wife.
He looked at his farm.
He looked at the food stored in his barn.
For the first time, he realized that he had been living surrounded by answers while behaving as though heaven had forgotten him.
GRATITUDE CHANGES THE WAY YOU INTERPRET LIFE
Panic compares.
Gratitude remembers.
Panic magnifies absence.
Gratitude recognizes presence.
You can desire more without despising what you have.
You can admire another person’s testimony without turning it into an accusation against God.
God is not late because somebody else arrived before you.
The seed does not panic because the tree beside it is already tall.
The moon does not stop shining because the sun is brighter.
Everything has its own appointed expression of glory.
Therefore, do not allow comparison to turn your blessing into a burden.
Trust God enough to remain peaceful while He is still writing your story.
THREE REFLECTIVE LESSONS
Gratitude protects you from the blindness of comparison.
When you constantly look at what others possess, you may eventually become blind to the treasures already surrounding you.
Do not measure God’s goodness by another person’s portion.
Someone else’s increase does not mean your God has decreased.
Trust God enough to remain peaceful while He is still writing your story.
What you cannot understand today may become the very thing you thank God for tomorrow.
Never insult God’s wisdom with panic.
Never allow another person’s blessing to make you despise your own.
And never become so fascinated by what God has given others that you forget to thank Him for what He has already placed in your hands.
Sometimes the greatest miracle is not receiving more; it is finally learning to recognize how much you already have.
