  • THE MAN WHO OFTEN SAYS TOMORROW WILL EVENTUALLY FIND HIMSELF IN YESTERDAY

One of the greatest tragedies of human existence is not the absence of opportunities but the habit of postponing them. Many people are not defeated by a lack of ability or resources but by continually promising to do tomorrow what requires their attention today.

Tomorrow can become a dangerous hiding place for an undisciplined mind. It creates the illusion of unlimited time while silently allowing opportunities to disappear. Time does not understand excuses; it moves forward whether we are ready or not.

The person who continually postpones his dreams may eventually discover that the future he was waiting for has quietly become his past.

THE FARMER WHO WAITED FOR THE PERFECT SEASON

An old African-inspired folktale tells of a farmer who lived in a fertile village. Every planting season, he watched his neighbours prepare their farms and sow their seeds.

However, he always had an excuse.

When the first rains came, he said the soil was still too wet. When the ground became suitable, he complained that the sun was too strong. When the weather became favourable, he decided to wait for better seeds.

His neighbours planted, cultivated, and eventually harvested their crops.

Year after year, the farmer continued promising himself that the next season would be different.

One evening, an elderly villager asked him, Why do you keep waiting for the perfect season when every season gives you an opportunity to begin?

The farmer replied, I am waiting for the right time.

The old man smiled and answered, My son, the seasons do not wait for the farmer. They fulfil their purpose whether he plants or not.

Years passed, and the farmer became old. His neighbours had built prosperous homes from the harvests of their labour, but his farm remained empty.

One morning, he stood before his abandoned farmland and whispered, I thought I had enough time.

The old man was no longer alive to answer him, but the lesson remained: The greatest enemy of an opportunity is the belief that it will always be available tomorrow.

THE DANGER OF PROCRASTINATION

Procrastination is often an escape from responsibility, uncertainty, and the fear of failure. Some people wait for perfect conditions, unlimited resources, or the approval of others before beginning.

Unfortunately, perfection rarely arrives before action. Growth comes through movement, wisdom through experience, and confidence through the courage to begin.

You cannot harvest the fruit of a seed you continually refuse to plant.

THE SPIRITUAL DIMENSION OF TIME

ECCLESIASTES 3:1 KJV

To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.

God created time and gave humanity the responsibility to use it meaningfully. Prayer, patience, and preparation are important, but they should never become excuses for avoiding responsibility.

Some people are praying for opportunities while neglecting the responsibilities already within their reach. Faith should inspire action, discipline, and obedience rather than endless postponement.

EPHESIANS 5:16 KJV

Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

THE WISDOM OF BEGINNING TODAY

Never allow the comfort of postponement to steal the possibilities of your future. You do not need to have everything figured out before taking the first step. Begin with what you have and improve as you progress.

A small step taken today may accomplish more than a thousand beautiful intentions postponed until tomorrow.

Remember, yesterday is a memory, today is a responsibility, and tomorrow is an uncertainty.

MORAL LESSONS

  1. Opportunities ignored today may become regrets tomorrow.
  2. Discipline accomplishes what mere intentions cannot.
  3. Do not wait for perfect conditions before making meaningful progress.
  4. Time rewards purposeful action, not endless excuses.
  5. A delayed beginning can become a lifetime of unfulfilled possibilities.

FINAL REFLECTION

The tragedy of a wasted life is not always that a person never had opportunities, but that he continually postponed the responsibility of using them.

Do not become so comfortable talking about tomorrow that you forget to make something meaningful out of today.

The clock does not negotiate, the seasons do not wait, and life does not pause for procrastination.

The man who continually promises himself tomorrow may eventually discover that yesterday has become the permanent witness of everything he failed to do.

Start today. Your future is waiting for your participation, not merely your promises.
