“And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word.”
Luke 1:38 (KJV)
THE MYSTERY OF TOMORROW
Human beings naturally want to understand the future before stepping into it. We seek explanations before obedience, certainty before commitment, and guarantees before sacrifice. Yet life teaches a different truth: the future rarely unfolds according to our calculations.
The future is not a puzzle to be solved by logic alone. It is more like an ocean, vast, deep, and beyond full human control. Many remain stuck because they wait to understand everything before they act.
But progress does not begin with full clarity. It begins with willingness.
Understanding may comfort the mind, but surrender transforms the life.
THE STORY OF ONYE IJE AND THE WIDE RIVER
A young traveler named Onye ije meaning a traveller once came to a wide river that separated him from the fertile land he desired. The river was deep and the current strong. He sat there for many days trying to calculate the safest way across, studying the water, measuring with sticks, and observing the waves.
An old man named Ochu nja meaning a hunter approached him and asked why he had stayed so long.
Onye ije replied, “I cannot cross until I fully understand the river.”
Ochun nja smiled and said, “No one understands the river before crossing it. The river reveals itself only to those who enter it.”
He handed him a small canoe.
After hesitation, Onye ije stepped in. As he crossed, he discovered that the same current he feared was guiding him safely to the other side.
When he arrived, he realized: the river did not require his understanding, it required his courage.
MARY AND THE COURAGE OF SURRENDER
Mary’s story remains one of the greatest examples of surrender.
When she received the divine message that she would carry a child of destiny, she was not given full details of what lay ahead. There were risks, uncertainties, and potential misunderstandings.
Yet her response was simple and powerful:
“Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word.”
She did not demand explanations or guarantees. She surrendered.
That surrender positioned her in a divine story far greater than her understanding.
THE HUMAN STRUGGLE WITH UNCERTAINTY
The human mind resists uncertainty. It asks:
What if I fail?
What if things go wrong?
What if this leads nowhere?
These questions often create paralysis.
But life’s greatest moments require movement before clarity. Growth always begins where full understanding ends.
Surrender is not weakness—it is courage in motion.
THE PRINCIPLE OF TRUST
Those who fulfill great purpose rarely see the full picture at the beginning. They move by trust.
Faith is not built on complete understanding, but on willingness to step forward despite incomplete information.
The future belongs to those who trust enough to move.
CLOSING WISDOM
Sometimes the greatest step forward is simply saying:
“Let it be according to your will.”
This is not passive resignation, it is active trust.
It is stepping into the canoe when the river looks uncertain.
It is saying yes when tomorrow is hidden.
It is moving forward even when the mind is not fully satisfied.
Like Onye ije, like Mary, the path becomes clear as you move.
What looks frightening from the shore may become the very force that carries you forward.
The future does not need your understanding.
It needs your surrender.
