“Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.”
Proverbs 27:6 (KJV)
THE DANGER OF SILENT FEARS
Human beings often fear difficult conversations because they fear rejection, misunderstanding, or conflict. Sometimes people remain silent because they want to keep peace around them. But there are moments when silence quietly becomes dangerous.
Not every peace is true peace.
Some peace is simply fear wearing the clothing of wisdom.
Many people avoid uncomfortable words today only to face painful consequences tomorrow.
THE FOLKLORE OF NNEAKA AND HER SON
Long ago, in an ancient village surrounded by thick forests and flowing streams, there lived a woman called Nneaka. She was known throughout the community for her gentle nature and dislike for conflict.
People often said:
“Nneaka carries peace wherever she goes.”
She had only one son called Obinna, a bright and adventurous child whom she loved deeply.
As the boy grew, she noticed troubling changes. He began moving with troublesome companions. His speech became rough, his behavior changed, and his movements became secretive.
Each time she wanted to correct him firmly, fear restrained her.
She thought:
“If I speak strongly, I may offend him.”
“If I confront him, conflict may enter my home.”
So she swallowed her words.
Neighbors warned her.
Elders advised her.
But she remained silent and called it peace.
Months later, Obinna followed some boys on a dangerous journey into the forest and never returned alive.
At his burial, Nneaka cried bitterly:
“My mouth wanted to speak, but my fear kept it closed.”
An elder sat beside her and said:
“The snake that enters the house while small should not be ignored because it is silent.”
And the village understood that some silence creates wounds that words could have prevented.
THE SILENCE THAT SOMETIMES WOUNDS
Not every silence is wisdom. Some silence protects peace, while some silence protects problems.
Many people live with the pain of:
The warning never given.
The truth never expressed.
The love never confessed.
The concern never voiced.
Many relationships break because important conversations never happened. Many lives suffer because needed correction was delayed.
THE COURAGE TO SPEAK WITH LOVE
Love does not always remain quiet.
Sometimes love corrects.
Sometimes love warns.
Sometimes love speaks.
True wisdom is not merely knowing what to say. It is knowing when silence becomes harmful and when words become necessary.
Faithful words may be uncomfortable for a moment, but they can save years of regret.
REFLECTION
Many regret not the words they spoke, but the words they swallowed.
Speak with wisdom.
Speak with kindness.
Speak with love.
Because some words become medicine when spoken at the right time, while some silences become burdens carried for years.
MORAL LESSONS
- Avoiding conflict is not always preserving peace.
- Love sometimes requires courage to speak difficult truths.
- Wisdom knows when silence heals and when speech saves.
