“All the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come.”
Job 14:14 KJV
Job spoke these words in the midst of intense suffering. Though he had lost almost everything, he chose to wait rather than abandon his trust in God. He understood that God’s appointed time cannot be hurried by human anxiety. True faith believes God’s promise and patiently waits for His perfect timing.
THE KINGDOM OF OZGBO-OZIGBO
There is an old African folklore about a kingdom whose ruler bore the name Ozgbo-Ozigbo, meaning Sharp Sharp.
King Ozgbo-Ozigbo hated delay. Every decision had to be made immediately. Every journey had to begin at once. Every building had to be completed overnight. Every judgment had to be delivered before all the facts were known. His favorite command echoed through the palace every morning:
“Sharp Sharp! Move! No waiting!”
At first the people admired his speed. Roads appeared quickly. Markets expanded rapidly. Soldiers marched without hesitation. Visitors praised the kingdom for its remarkable efficiency.
But speed without wisdom slowly revealed another face.
Builders raised houses before foundations had settled, and walls soon collapsed.
Farmers harvested crops before maturity, and famine followed abundance.
Judges pronounced sentences before listening carefully, and innocent people suffered.
Warriors entered battles without strategy, and victory escaped their grasp.
Families stopped listening to one another because every conversation became a race to speak rather than a willingness to understand.
Soon the kingdom became wealthy in activity but poor in peace.
One day an elderly traveler arrived carrying nothing but a walking staff. He requested an audience with the king.
The king impatiently demanded, “Speak quickly.”
The old man smiled and replied,
“Your Majesty, the fastest foot often arrives first at the wrong destination.”
The king laughed.
The elder continued,
“A river that refuses to bend eventually destroys its own banks. The hunter who fires before seeing clearly wastes both his arrow and his opportunity.”
The king dismissed him.
Years passed. Confusion increased. The kingdom that worshipped speed eventually stumbled under the weight of hurried decisions. The people finally discovered a forgotten truth:
Not everything that comes quickly remains permanently.
The kingdom later changed its royal inscription. The words “Sharp Sharp” were replaced with another:
“Wisdom walks at the speed of truth.”
Peace gradually returned because patience had reclaimed its throne.
THE LESSON OF THE STORY
This story mirrors the human heart.
Many people are ruled by an invisible King Ozgbo-Ozigbo. Every desire must be fulfilled immediately. Every prayer must be answered today. Every promotion must happen now. Every relationship must become perfect overnight. Every dream must bloom before its roots have gone deep.
The kingdom of God operates differently. It teaches us that lasting success is not built by haste but by preparation. Delay is often the workshop where God shapes character before releasing destiny.
African elders wisely say, “The fruit plucked before its season fills the mouth with bitterness.” Time itself is a teacher, and only those who remain in its classroom graduate into maturity.
THE DANGER OF IMPATIENCE
Patience is not weakness. It is strength that has learned to wait without losing hope.
The world celebrates speed, but heaven celebrates timing.
Many painful decisions are born from impatient hearts. Impatience creates anxiety, weakens judgment, magnifies emotions, and blinds people to wisdom. It often mistakes delay for denial and silence for abandonment.
The patient heart understands that waiting is not wasted time. Waiting is where character matures, wisdom grows, and vision becomes clearer.
THE EXAMPLES OF THOSE WHO WAITED
Abraham waited.
Joseph waited.
David waited.
Moses waited.
Hannah waited.
Even Jesus waited until the fullness of time.
None of them obtained God’s promise by rushing ahead of His timing.
THE BEAUTY OF WAITING
Every act of waiting declares, “God’s timing is wiser than my own.”
The butterfly never apologizes for remaining inside the cocoon. Premature emergence would leave its wings too weak for flight.
Likewise, many delays are not punishments but preparations.
Gold is purified by fire.
Wine matures with age.
Diamonds are formed beneath pressure.
Souls are perfected through waiting.
Impatience seeks shortcuts.
Patience discovers destiny.
THE HARVEST OF PATIENCE
The kingdom of God grows like a seed beneath the soil. Long before fruit appears above the ground, unseen roots are spreading below.
Never despise seasons of waiting.
The silence may be preparing your song.
The wilderness may be preparing your promised land.
The pruning may be preparing your harvest.
The delay may be preparing your destiny.
Those who wait upon God do not merely receive answers; they become stronger, wiser, gentler, and more like Christ while they wait.
Patience is not empty time.
Patience is sacred preparation.
Indeed, patience is one of the brightest jewels in the Kingdom of God, for only those who learn to wait well can carry eternal treasures wisely.

- Every delay invites a question: Am I waiting only for God to change my circumstances, or is God using this season to change me?
