SOMETIMES, WHAT WE CALL OFFENSE IS UNRESOLVED MEMORY

Sometimes, what offends us today is connected to what wounded us yesterday. A careless word may reopen an old wound, and a simple disagreement may awaken memories of rejection, betrayal, or disappointment.

We may think we are reacting to the present when we are actually struggling with the past. Consequently, we judge new people through old experiences, build walls around our hearts, and mistake suspicion for wisdom.

THE STORY OF THE CRACKED MIRROR

A young artist once inherited a beautiful mirror from his father. Unfortunately, the mirror had a small crack. Whenever he looked into it, he complained that his face appeared distorted.

One day, an elderly craftsman visited him and said, “You have spent years blaming your face for what belongs to the mirror.”

The young man replaced the mirror and discovered that his reflection was clear.

The lesson was profound. Sometimes, our past experiences become cracked mirrors through which we interpret the present. We see rejection where there is misunderstanding, hostility where there is disagreement, and betrayal where there is uncertainty.

Not every person who comes into your life carries the intentions of those who hurt you before.

THE COURAGE TO HEAL

Proverbs 4:23 says, “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.”

Healing begins when we learn to examine our reactions before judging others. Not every silence is rejection, and not every correction is disrespect. Sometimes, we must ask questions before drawing conclusions.

This does not mean tolerating genuine wrongdoing. It means refusing to let old wounds control new relationships.

Forgiveness does not erase the past, but it prevents the past from ruling the present.

REFLECTION

Before calling it an offense, examine the memory it has awakened. Before accusing someone, seek understanding. Before allowing yesterday’s pain to determine today’s response, give wisdom an opportunity to speak.

Let your past teach you without imprisoning you. Heal the wound, release the bitterness, and allow the present to become a new beginning.
