PURITY IS THE RICHEST ORNAMENT OF A MAN
«“There is none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back any thing from me but thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?”
Genesis 39:9 (KJV)»
THE INVISIBLE JEWEL
There are ornaments that decorate the body, and there are ornaments that decorate the soul.
Gold may adorn the neck. Diamonds may sparkle upon the fingers. Expensive garments may attract admiration from a distance. Yet there is an ornament far richer than all material treasures combined. It is purity.
Purity is the beauty of a soul that has not sold itself to corruption. It is the fragrance of a conscience that remains alive before God. It is the quiet dignity of a person who chooses what is right even when no one is watching.
Joseph understood this mystery. Standing in Potiphar’s house, he faced temptation and opportunity at the same time. Yet he asked, “How can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?”
That question preserved his destiny.
Purity is not merely avoiding wrongdoing. It is living with a constant awareness of God’s presence.
The pure person does not act correctly because people are watching. He acts correctly because his heart remains connected to God.
THE POWER OF A PURE HEART
Every compromise weakens character, while every act of integrity strengthens it.
A pure heart brings peace, confidence, and stability. It frees a person from the burden of guilt and the fear of exposure.
Many people seek peace through possessions, achievements, or distractions. Yet true peace often begins with a clean conscience.
A troubled conscience can turn a palace into a prison.
A pure conscience can turn a prison into a palace.
Joseph experienced both, yet his peace remained because his purity remained.
Jesus said:
«“Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.”
Matthew 5:8 (KJV)»
Purity sharpens spiritual vision. It helps a person recognize God’s guidance and remain aligned with His purpose.
Joseph lost a temporary opportunity but gained an eternal testimony. The prison that followed his obedience became the pathway to his throne.
THE STORY OF KOFI AND ORNAMENT.
Long ago, among a village near a great river, there lived a young hunter named Kofi.
The elders often spoke of a sacred white garment passed down through generations. It was said that whoever wore the garment while maintaining a pure heart would walk with honor among the people.
Many desired the garment because it symbolized greatness.
One season, Kofi inherited it.
At first he protected it carefully. But as years passed, he became careless. He entered muddy places unnecessarily. He associated with dishonest men. He neglected the wisdom of the elders.
Gradually the garment became stained.
Ashamed, he attempted to hide the stains by covering them with colorful decorations.
He attached beads.
He added ornaments.
He wore expensive accessories.
From a distance, people admired him.
But the elders saw through the decorations.
One day an old chief called him and said:
“The ornaments are beautiful, but they cannot replace the whiteness you have lost.”
Those words pierced his heart.
Kofi removed the decorations and spent many months cleansing the garment.
When he finally returned, the people noticed something remarkable.
He wore fewer ornaments than before.
Yet he looked more honorable than ever.
The elders smiled and said:
“The beauty was never in the decorations. The beauty was in the purity.”
So it is with life.
Titles are decorations.
Wealth is decoration.
Fame is decoration.
Influence is decoration.
Purity is the garment itself.
THE ENDURING TREASURE
Beauty fades.
Possessions fade.
Positions fade.
Applause fades.
But character remains.
Joseph’s greatest achievement was not becoming governor of Egypt. His greatest achievement happened long before the palace, when he chose purity over pleasure and obedience over compromise.
Purity may cost something today, but it protects something greater tomorrow.
It is the richest ornament a man can wear.
THREE MORAL LESSONS
- Purity Protects Destiny
A single moment of compromise can damage what years of preparation have built. Purity guards the future God has prepared.
- Character Is Greater Than Appearance
External decorations may impress people temporarily, but purity and integrity earn lasting honor before God and men.
- The Fear of God Is the Foundation of True Purity
Like Joseph, those who ask, “How can I do this great wickedness and sin against God?” possess a moral compass that guides them through life’s greatest temptations.
