Life becomes unnecessarily competitive when we measure our destiny by another person’s journey.
God did not create one road called success. He created many gifts, many assignments, and many paths through which His purpose can be fulfilled.
One person may build hospitals, another schools. One may preach to thousands, another may quietly raise children who influence generations. Different paths do not mean different worth.
The danger begins when we mistake difference for inferiority.
The fact that someone is running on a different road does not mean they are behind. Their destination may simply require a different road.
The hand of God can make an ordinary path extraordinary.
THE STORY OF AKUSI NA CHI AND CHIDERA
There were once two brothers named Akusi na Chi and Chidera.
Akusi na Chi means “wealth is from God.”
Chidera means “what God has written.”
Both gained admission into the university, but they studied different courses.
Akusi na Chi studied Medicine. He was intelligent and ambitious, and he believed his prestigious course would make him more successful than his brother.
Chidera studied Kettling.
Akusi na Chi sometimes looked at his brother as though he had chosen the lesser path. He boasted that he would become greater. But Chidera was not intimidated.
He understood something his brother had not yet learned:
A course of study can prepare you for an assignment, but it cannot write your destiny.
Years passed. They graduated and entered different fields.
Eventually, both became great men.
Akusi na Chi became a distinguished professional whose work touched many lives. Chidera also became successful and influential in his own field.
They eventually discovered that their courses had not determined the final measure of their lives.
Their education gave them tools. Their discipline developed their abilities. Their choices opened doors. But the hand of God directed the larger story.
Never despise your journey because another person’s journey appears greater.
Someone may be ahead of you in one dimension and behind you in another.
The oak tree should not envy the river because it does not flow. The river should not envy the mountain because it does not stand still.
Life is wide enough for many successes.
There is room for another person’s victory without cancelling yours.
Their promotion does not mean your promotion has been rejected.
Their greatness does not make your greatness impossible.
Their calling does not invalidate yours.
TRUST WHAT GOD HAS WRITTEN, EVEN WHEN YOUR PATH LOOKS SMALL
Chidera’s name carried a reminder: what God has written.
The Bible says:
“The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way.”
Psalm 37:23 KJV
God orders steps.
Some steps are celebrated publicly. Others are taken quietly. Some bring immediate recognition. Others prepare you for a future that has not yet appeared.
You may look at someone else’s life and wonder, Why am I not where they are?
Perhaps God is not taking you where they are going.
Perhaps He is taking you somewhere they could never go.
Many people abandon their own road because they become fascinated by someone else’s destination. They copy another person’s life and gradually lose the courage to discover their own.
Destiny cannot be fulfilled through imitation.
You were not created to become another person. You were created to become the person God intended you to become.
Akusi na Chi had his own road.
Chidera had his own road.
Neither needed to destroy the other in order to become great.
Success is not a throne with only one seat.
There can be many successful people, many great ministries, many influential businesses, many excellent professionals, and many people fulfilling divine assignments simultaneously.
The greatness of another person is not evidence of the absence of your own.
REFLECTION
Do not spend your life looking sideways. Look upward.
Ask God:
“What have You placed in me?”
“What have You called me to do?”
“What path have You prepared for me?”
Then walk faithfully.
Akusi na Chi discovered that wealth is from God.
Chidera discovered that what God has written cannot be measured by comparison.
And both eventually learned the same lesson:
The course you study may influence your career, but it is the hand of God that ultimately gives purpose to your life.
Do not envy another person’s journey.
Do not abandon your calling because someone else’s path looks brighter.
Life is wide enough for many successes, and deep enough for many callings.
There is room for you.
Walk your road.
Develop your gifts.
Honor your season.
Follow God’s leading.
And trust the One who wrote your story.
