Wisdom treasures the present moment.
Not because tomorrow is evil, but because today is powerful.
We often live in one moment while our minds are somewhere else.
The body is here, but the mind is already in tomorrow.
The blessing is present, but the heart is worrying about losing it.
The opportunity has arrived, but fear is already imagining what might happen next.
And sometimes, while preparing for tomorrow, we fail to live today.
Wisdom prepares for tomorrow without sacrificing today.
“This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.”
Psalm 118:24 KJV
Yesterday is memory.
Tomorrow is mystery.
Today is in our hands.
THE PRESENT MOMENT IS WHERE LIFE HAPPENS
We spend much time remembering yesterday and anticipating tomorrow.
But life is happening now.
The past may teach you, but it cannot be lived again.
The future may inspire you, but it cannot yet be touched.
The present is where decisions are made, relationships are nurtured, prayers are offered, and obedience becomes visible.
A child asking a question.
A husband and wife sitting together.
A friend making a phone call.
A person kneeling to pray.
A worker faithfully doing what nobody sees.
A student opening a book.
These moments may never become headlines, yet they are constructing a life.
The great architecture of destiny is built with small bricks of today.
Do not spend today waiting for life to begin.
Tomorrow will eventually become another today.
Jesus said:
“Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself.”
Matthew 6:34 KJV
Prepare for tomorrow, but do not allow tomorrow to steal today.
TODAY IS POWERFUL
We sometimes underestimate today because it looks small.
Yet great things often begin in ordinary moments.
A conversation becomes a friendship.
A decision becomes a destiny.
A prayer becomes a breakthrough.
A seed becomes a forest.
A small act of obedience opens a door.
The present moment looks small because we cannot yet see what it is carrying.
A seed does not look like a forest.
A beginning does not look like a conclusion.
A first step does not reveal the entire journey.
Yet the future is often hidden inside the faithfulness of the present.
There is an old African wisdom that understands this.
When a farmer places a seed into the earth, he does not demand an immediate harvest.
He understands seasons.
He understands process.
He understands that what is invisible today may become undeniable tomorrow.
So it is with our lives.
The prayer you pray today may influence tomorrow.
The child you encourage today may remember your words for years.
The discipline you begin today may protect your future.
The forgiveness you choose today may liberate your tomorrow.
Never despise the present because it appears ordinary.
The ordinary moment may be carrying extraordinary consequences.
There is poetry in this mystery:
The river does not announce the ocean
when it leaves the mountain.
The seed does not announce the forest
when it enters the soil.
The dawn does not announce the afternoon
when it first touches the horizon.
Yet everything that will become
begins somewhere.
And perhaps your somewhere is today.
Not next year.
Not when everything is perfect.
Not when everybody approves.
Today.
LIVE TODAY AND PREPARE FOR TOMORROW
One person becomes so focused on tomorrow that they cannot enjoy today.
Another becomes so absorbed in today that they refuse to prepare for tomorrow.
Wisdom does neither.
Live today.
Prepare for tomorrow.
Learn from yesterday.
Yesterday is your teacher.
Today is your classroom.
Tomorrow is your possibility.
Jesus taught His disciples to pray:
«“Give us this day our daily bread.”
Matthew 6:11 KJV»
There is grace for today.
There will be grace for tomorrow when tomorrow arrives.
Do not carry tomorrow with today’s strength.
Be faithful today.
Every season has something to teach.
The wilderness has its lesson.
The waiting season has its lesson.
The building season has its lesson.
The harvest has its lesson.
Do not demand the fruit of harvest from a season designed for planting.
Do not rush through preparation because you are fascinated by manifestation.
Perhaps God is not merely trying to get you somewhere.
Perhaps He is making you someone.
Today is where patience is developed.
Today is where faith is exercised.
Today is where character is tested.
Today is where forgiveness becomes real.
Today is where love becomes action.
Today is where obedience becomes visible.
Tomorrow may contain your opportunity, but today contains your preparation.
THE DISCIPLINE OF BEING PRESENT
Being present means paying attention to what is happening now.
When you are present, you notice what God is doing around you.
You notice people’s pain.
You recognize opportunities to serve.
You appreciate blessings that once looked ordinary.
Sometimes God is speaking through a moment we are too distracted to notice.
Someone needs encouragement.
A child needs attention.
A spouse needs conversation.
A divine opportunity appears.
Presence creates awareness.
Awareness creates gratitude.
Gratitude teaches the heart to recognize what is already present instead of continually mourning what is absent.
I may not have everything, but I have something.
I may not be where I want to be, but I am somewhere.
I may not understand tomorrow, but I have been given today.
I may still be becoming, but I am alive enough to continue becoming.
That is wisdom.
DO NOT LET TOMORROW STEAL TODAY
There is a particular kind of suffering that comes from living too far ahead.
You worry about problems that have not happened.
You imagine conversations that have not occurred.
You fear losses that have not arrived.
You rehearse disasters that may never exist.
While the mind is fighting imaginary battles, the present quietly passes.
Tomorrow may bring difficulty.
But borrowing tomorrow’s trouble today does not give you tomorrow’s strength.
Jesus asked:
“Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?”
Matthew 6:27 KJV
Worrying is not the same as preparing.
Preparation asks:
“What can I responsibly do?”
Anxiety asks:
“What if everything goes wrong?”
Choose preparation.
Choose faith.
Pray today.
Work today.
Love today.
Forgive today.
Learn today.
Serve today.
Rest today.
Give thanks today.
When tomorrow arrives, meet it with the grace that belongs to tomorrow.
REFLECTIVE LESSONS
Do not sacrifice today’s blessing because you are afraid of tomorrow’s uncertainty.
Tomorrow deserves preparation, but it does not deserve the theft of today’s peace.
Receive the people around you.
Receive the opportunities before you.
Receive the quiet moments.
Be there while they are happening.
Remember that today’s small acts may become tomorrow’s greatest results.
Do not despise the seed because it is not yet a tree.
Do not despise the beginning because it does not yet resemble the conclusion.
What you repeatedly do today is helping to shape who you will become tomorrow.
Receive each day as both a gift and an assignment from God.
Today is not merely another square on the calendar.
It is a portion of life entrusted to you.
Ask yourself:
What is God teaching me today?
Who can I love today?
What must I do faithfully today?
What blessing have I overlooked because I was waiting for another one?
Then live accordingly.
For life does not arrive all at once.
It comes quietly,
morning by morning,
breath by breath,
moment by moment.
And perhaps wisdom is simply the grace to recognize that the moment in your hands is not an interruption on the way to your life.
It is your life.
So treasure today.
Prepare for tomorrow.
Learn from yesterday.
And walk with God in the only moment you can actually inhabit:
this one.
