SCRIPTURAL FOUNDATION

“Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, which by interpretation is called Dorcas: this woman was full of good works and almsdeeds which she did.”
“And all the widows stood by him weeping, and shewing the coats and garments which Dorcas made, while she was with them.”
“But Peter put them all forth, and kneeled down, and prayed; and turning him to the body said, Tabitha, arise. And she opened her eyes.”
Acts 9:36, 39, 40 KJV

THE POWER OF GOODNESS

There are seeds that do not grow in fields but in the hidden soil of human hearts. Acts of goodness often appear small in the hour they are given, yet they carry a future weight greater than the hand that released them. Dorcas gave garments to widows, kindness to the needy, and dignity to the forgotten. When death visited her house, the memory of her goodness stood up and spoke on her behalf.

The widows did not gather merely because someone had died. They gathered because someone had lived well. They held the evidence of her compassion in their hands. Her kindness had become cloth, her mercy had become covering, and her love had become testimony. What she gave in goodness yesterday was already preparing a place for her tomorrow.

Many people think only money builds the future. But character also builds it. Compassion builds it. Integrity builds it. Every sincere act becomes an unseen brick laid into roads we have not yet traveled. Some doors open not because of power, but because goodness arrived there before us.

THE REWARD WITHIN

Those who live only for themselves often become inwardly poor. Selfishness narrows the soul. But generosity expands the inner life. It creates meaning, connection, and strength. When a person gives sincerely, they do not lose; they become richer within.

Goodness also heals the giver. To serve another person often rescues the heart from bitterness, envy, and emptiness. It reminds the soul that it still has something valuable to pour.

Goodness is never wasted. Heaven records what earth may overlook. Dorcas may have thought she was only sewing garments, but she was weaving remembrance. She was storing honor.

When Peter arrived, the widows lifted the garments like witnesses. Their tears became intercession. Her past kindness became present advocacy. Then life answered death, and Dorcas rose again.

THE ANCIENT STORY OF NKEM JIKA

Long ago, in an ancient village near a river of reeds, there lived an old woman named Nkem Jika. She owned little, yet she was known by all. She gave water to strangers, food to hungry children, and counsel to troubled hearts. Whenever fishermen returned empty-handed, she shared from her own small basket.

Some mocked her, saying, “Why do you give when you have so little?”

Nkem Jika would smile and reply, “The hand that opens is never truly empty.”

Years passed, and a season of famine came upon the land. Crops failed. The river thinned. Hunger entered many homes. Nkem Jika herself became weak, for she had no hidden store.

But something remarkable happened.

One morning, a young mother came with yam. Then a fisherman came with dried fish. Then a trader came with grain. Then children came carrying fruit. Before sunset, her hut was full.

Those who once received from her had become her harvest.

When asked how she survived, Nkem Jika said, “I ate yesterday in the hearts of others, and today they brought it back.”

THE QUIET CIRCLE OF LIFE

Life often works in such quiet circles.

What you sow in goodness may not return immediately, but it rarely disappears. Kindness travels through memory. Mercy moves through generations. Honor walks ahead of you into rooms you have not entered.

Some seeds lie long in the ground. Some kindness returns in another form. A smile given may come back as favor. Help offered may return as protection. Encouragement spoken may return as support in a dark season.

There is also a warning hidden here. Those who continually withhold may one day discover they prepared emptiness for themselves. A closed hand often meets a closed future. But an open hand frequently finds that roads have been prepared ahead.

So give while you can. Give wisdom. Give mercy. Give honesty. Give service. Give comfort. Give prayer. Give help. Give love.

Not because you are buying tomorrow, but because goodness has a way of building tomorrow.

MORAL LESSONS

  1. Goodness is a seed that often blooms in another season.
What seems small today may become your shelter tomorrow.
  2. The help you give others may one day become help surrounding you.
Kindness stored in hearts can return when you need it most.
  3. A generous life is never an empty life.
Even when hands release much, the soul gains more.

FINAL THOUGHT

What you give in goodness today is already preparing a place for you tomorrow.
